"Buz Şarabı ve Leblebi" (Ice Wine and Roasted Chickpea) is a novel I crafted over two years, culminating in its publication in June 2024. This work explores the journey of Selin, a Turkish immigrant woman who returns to her homeland following her grandmother's passing. The narrative delves into the cultural dissonance Selin experiences as she reconnects with her family, highlighting how her time abroad has shaped her identity and perspective.
Through Selin's eyes, readers witness the complex interplay between tradition and modernity, family expectations and personal growth. The story examines themes of cultural identity, the immigrant experience, and the often bittersweet nature of homecoming.
Currently available only in Turkish, this novel represents a significant milestone in my writing career. It captures the nuanced experiences of those who straddle two worlds, offering insights into the Turkish diaspora and the transformative power of distance and time on one's relationship with their roots.
Looking ahead, I plan to translate "Buz Şarabı ve Leblebi" into English, aiming to share this poignant exploration of cultural identity and family dynamics with a broader, international audience.
